Preventative Care
Preventive care is the cornerstone of our mission, as it can substantially improve & extend the life of your pet.
The foundation of preventive care is comprised of the following:
Annual Wellness Exam
An annual wellness is essential to maintaining your pet’s overall health. Pets age faster than people, and are often very good at hiding signs of illness. Unfortunately our pets cannot talk, so we rely on clinical signs, a physical exam, and in some cases, diagnostic tests, for early detection and successful treatment of serious diseases.
The annual wellness exam is also an excellent opportunity to discuss questions you may have about your pet’s diet or behaviour.
Parasite Prevention
Depending on your pet’s lifestyle, we recommend deworming and external parasite prevention at various intervals. For families with young children, internal parasite prevention is important, as some parasites can be transferred from pets to children. Book a consultation with your veterinarian to discuss what type of parasite prevention is appropriate for your pet. We’ll help you choose from a variety of products.
Senior Pet Health Care
As your pet ages, preventive health requirements change. Based on your pet’s individual health situation, we may recommend annual diagnostics, such as blood work. Altering diet, exercise and other elements of lifestyle may also be appropriate during your pet’s senior years. We can discuss these options with you during your pet’s senior wellness exam.
Vaccination
We recommend core vaccines for all pets. However, we believe vaccinations should also be tailored to each pet’s lifestyle. Book a consultation with your veterinarian to determine an appropriate course of action.
Tick Removal
At Garibaldi Veterinary Hospital we use the De-Ticker for tick removal. Check out this video to see how it works.
Pet Nutrition
Appropriate nutrition is fundamental to preventive health. We are always happy to discuss suitable diet options for your pet.
